SATURDAY CENTUS: Small Feeling

Jenny Matlock
Saturday Centus is a short story theme where you are given a different prompt each week, and have to work it into your story. The theme for this week is in bold. Here is my short story:

Margaret Adams was a grumpy old woman. She was nasty to everyone and always made them feel small. And she certainly didn't believe in any holidays.

"Ding Dong" the bell rang. "Trick or treat!" they shouted as the door opened. The children stood there eagerly with their little black sack ready for sweets.

"Eugh! I hate children! Why don't you do a magic trick and get off my doorstep!" Margaret fumed.

"I know a magic trick Mrs Adams" One child said dressed as a devil. He waved his fork and 'poof' she was gone! Or was she!?

The children laughed and ran off. Shortly after Margaret's husband arrived home. 'Squish!' .... "Damn grasshoppers" he said.

Little did he know that Margaret had been shrunk with a magic spell. I think you can guess what the squish was. Now it was her turn to feel small!

Nice take on the prompt to have a grown up that doesn't like Halloween or trick-or-treaters.

Best wishes,

That was a good one...(and don't ya wish we really did have a magic wand every now and then when we'd love nothing more than to shrink someone down to size..?).

I loved this!

I almost did something similar but I'm glad I didn't. Yours was really clever. I never would have thought of the magic. Great, unexpected thing to happen the woman.

That's one for a campfire story. Although you know, Margaret was probably adopted and resented being an unwanted child. She just needed some love! :D ~Ames

Maybe next time the grumpy old lady won't leave her front light on so trick or treaters won't ring the bell. Gotta love old lady stories! ;)

Oh man, that little squish was one that man will regret...but hey, a grump shouldn't even answer the door on halloween!
