SATURDAY CENTUS: What If

Jenny Matlock
Saturday Centus is a short story theme where you are given a different prompt each week, and have to work it into your story. The theme for this week is in bold. Here is my short story:

Daisy sat on the sofa staring out of the window in the direction of the sky.
I smiled at her expression that seemed deep in thought.
"What are you miles away about young lady?"
"Well mommy .. I was thinking if I had a hammer I could build a ladder that goes to nanny's special cloud in heaven so I can meet her."
Tears filled my eyes which I tried to discretely hide. Daisy had heard so much about nanny in stories and photos. She passed away just a week before she was born.
I gave her a big hug "Oh sweetheart that's so nice. She would have really liked you."

I need a tissue, for real, my mouth turned down, my eyes widened and filled with tears as I read this sweet take on the prompt! Amazing.

This was lovely. You captured the sweetness and innocence of a child so perfectly. You really needed to post a three kleenex warning for this one :) Kat

Dear Tina,
Wonderful use of the prompt! No violence! Just using a hammer as a tool. So sweet. This is not just made up. This is the kind of story I sometimes hear from my children. Or heard; they are growing up fast.
Best wishes,
Anna

Oh man. You made me cry.

That was incredibly sweet. Loved the simple verbage and dialogue creating a lovely, poignant and believable conversational vignette.

Really well written.

Thank you for linking.

I liked this very much.
