SATURDAY CENTUS: Cruel Happiness

Jenny Matlock

Saturday Centus is a short story theme where you are given a different prompt each week, and have to work it into your story. The words this week are 100, you are allowed to add a picture and the prompt is in bold. Here is my short story:

Kelly bursts through the living room door "Surprise I'm Pregnant!". A deadly silence stood in the room, faces filled with grief and eyes full of tears.

"It's Mom isn't it?" she said with a shaky voice. Without waiting for an answer she ran to her Mom's room to find an empty bed with the duvet and pillows cleared away.

Kelly lay on the bed and stroked the mattress where her Mom once lay. She could still smell her perfume.

Suddenly the baby kicked for the first time and a well known saying become familiar: It's said when someone dies a new life is born.

This is so touchingly beautiful. The smell of perfume, the kicking baby. You speak directly to the senses. Thanks for this great Centus.

Namaste..........cj

Oh Tina. This was beautiful. I have shivers on my arm. What a bittersweet time for them all.

Lovely writing. Very believable and vivid in my mind.
